MIDI CC Tracks

Reported by Matt | January 9th, 2009 @ 01:00 PM | in 1.1.0 ("Malted Milk")

Homebelly in the Ableton live forum offers a neat idea which is to add the ability to send MIDI CC data as well as note data.

One possibility is to be able to send MIDI CC data along with note data (or possibly as an additional token type). However Homebelly suggests something different also:

I guess i'm thinking that you could assign a CC# to a layer, then each of the 127 midi "steps" in that layer could send out some variance of that controller data across time, and have it affect what ever parameter its assigned to on the synth being controlled by the sequencer in a rhythmic way not related to the rhythm being applied to the notes.

So we could have the ability to assign MIDI CC "tracks" to each layer that would run in parallel with the layer but not be tied to its rhythmic structure.

What's not clear is whether this would work best as some kind of step sequencer or as an oscillator (or both).

Elysium is a generative music application inspired by the mighty reacTogon (by Mark Burton) and brought to life by Matt Mower. It is written for Mac OS X in Objective-C using the excellent Cocoa application framework and uses CoreMIDI to drive any MIDI instrument to produce sound.
